3 Affirmations To Get Yourself To The Dentist When You Don’t Want To Go

Last Updated on November 14, 2019

If you have a fear of the dentist because your current dentist is too rough or lacking compassion, then change dentists. That can really help you see the dentist in a new light. I know, I had to do it. But, if you have a nice dentist, and you just have a fear that something bad is going to happen, or you just don’t want to take the time out of your day to go to the dentist, then these affirmations will help you remind yourself of why it’s so important you push past that fear or laziness and get your butt to the dentist!

I Take Care Of My Oral Health Because It’s Very Important

Your oral health is just as important as every other part of you. You must take care of it because, besides the pain that can occur from poor oral health, it can affect other parts of your body negatively too.

For instance, it can hurt your heart. People who suffer from gum disease are twice as likely to suffer from coronary artery disease than people who don’t have gum disease according to experts.

And, according to this article, a study linked poor oral health to an increased risk of pancreatic cancer.

The bottom line is that you should care about your future overall health enough to go to the dentist and fix what needs to be fixed.

I Love The Rewards That I Get After The Dentist

The best part about the dentist is that they have fixed or improved your teeth when you are done! That’s a huge reward for getting in that dentist’s chair and letting them poke around in your mouth.

The problem is that most people focus on the visit, but this affirmation will help you focus more on your desire to get that reward once the visit is done.

It also doesn’t hurt to add an extra reward at the end of every dentist visit. For instance:

  • Manicure and pedicure
  • Massage
  • Special dinner after you are able to eat again
  • A night of pizza and movies

The more you focus on the big rewards you will get from sitting in a dentist’s chair for a while, the easier it will be to go to the dentist.

I’m Grateful That I Can Go To The Dentist!

The more you focus on the fact that you should be grateful that you are able to go to the dentist, the less you will complain about having to go.

Many people can’t afford to go to the dentist. They either don’t have dental insurance or just don’t have good enough dental insurance to cover their dental costs. That means that they must put up with the consequences of not going to the dentist.

If you can afford it or have great coverage, be grateful for that fact and go to the dentist!

I’m one who didn’t have dental insurance for years, and with all the added family expenses – including a seriously ill husband — and am paying a heavy price now.
However, the fact that I CAN go to the dentist now IS a big deal. It might be too late for me, BUT if you have an Aspen Dental or similar that offers free x rays and consultation, then GO before it’s too late.
Bear in mind that’s where I am right now! I’m waiting to see the dentist to find out what will happen to me. So even if it’s too late for me, I’m going to be grateful to be able to see
