Productivity Tip #11: Force Yourself To Do Something On Those Days You Feel Like Doing Nothing

Do you feel like doing nothing today? A man I know has Lupus. He was diagnosed 30 years ago and is now 70-years-old. He is almost always tired, but he forces himself to get up and do something productive every single day. All he wants to do is sit in his chair and do nothing, but he knows that if he gives into that desire, he will slowly fade away.

We never feel fulfilled until we are productive

Not Forcing Yourself To Do Something Results In Laziness

Some people believe that you should stop forcing yourself to do something when you don’t feel like doing it. While that may be good for things like pushing yourself when you are sick, or forcing yourself to do things that aren’t moving you towards your ideal life, it doesn’t apply to getting things done that truly matter.

Laziness is a habit. The more you tell yourself, ‘I don’t force myself to do things when I don’t feel like doing them,’ the more you will get into the habit of saying and doing that, and the more unproductive you will be in life.

This is why that man with Lupus thinks he still has good health. He may not feel like doing things, but he hasn’t let his desire to be lazy become a habit. Instead, he is the habit of doing something despite wanting to do nothing. Mostly he works in the yard. His yard is beautiful, and his goal is to make it as stunning as possible, which he accomplishes year after year. He feels good when he sits in it and admires it. He feels good after a day’s work in the yard. And it helps him maintain his physical and mental health.

Just Because You Don’t Feel Like Doing It Doesn’t Mean It Shouldn’t Be Done

Remember, your ideal life is at the top of the staircase. You need to take each step in order to reach it. One thing accomplished equals one step towards that ideal life.

Just because you don’t feel like doing something doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done. Getting things done will help you move towards your goals. And, getting things done helps you to feel good about yourself and life in general.

And remember, you don’t need to do everything. You just need to do one thing that should be done.

You Were Created To Produce

Sometimes we get motivated to do what we need to do. But, sometimes that motivation doesn’t come. Sometimes we need to start doing in order to feel motivated.

So, get up and start doing.

What should you tell yourself when you feel like doing nothing?

  • I was born to produce.
  • I was born to create.
  • I was born to bring things to life and add to this world.
  • I know that doing one thing today will help me reach and live my ideal life.
  • I feel most alive when I am productive and get things done.
  • I feel better about myself and my life when I get up and do stuff.

The fact is because we were born to produce, we feel most fulfilled when we are productive.

Ever notice how a day wasted doesn’t feel that good? You have the power to do something today, so why choose to waste your day?

Make sure you are productive every day. Even on those days you feel like doing nothing. You will never regret being productive. You won’t sit around and wish you hadn’t got up and done something. You will simply feel more alive and more fulfilled, even when you started out wanting to do nothing.
